Mountain Biking

Snowdonia has a reputation as an area ideally situated and resourced for mountain biking.
The terrain nearby to Caedu-Cottage is host to, and spans, an extensive network of forest trails and mountain routes.
From gentle rides to take in local history and hidden valleys of the region to challenging, epic rides, all of which offer spectacular views of Snowdonia, there is something here for everyone. There are way marked trails and maps available for those wishing to base themselves in Caedu-Cottage and an extensive network of ancient trails and bridleways dissecting the valleys and hill tops for which Ordinance Surveymaps indicate rights of way for cyclists. Several guide books are available illustrating and describing some of the excellent routes in the region.

Golf

In Snowdonia you will find golf courses which are part of the natural landscape - from links and parkland to hill courses. Caedu-Cottage is within easy distance of several top golf courses. Golfing in this area is a special experience with so many courses to enjoy, all located in wonderful settings with excellent views of the mountains and the coast. Needless to say, Snowdonia dominates the view from nearly every course in the north west but the area's unrivalled collection of castles also contributes to the spectacular background. There's been a course near Anglesey's Beaumaris Castle for a century and a famous one near the classic turrets of Conwy Castle for even longer.
Inland, the beauty spot of Betws-y-Coed boasts a nine-hole course.

Fishing

A part from the pleasures and challenges posed by rod and line, the angler based in Betws-y-Coed is given the opportunity for relaxation and observation within valley, woodland and moorland settings of rich variety and considerable beauty. Salmon have bred in the Conwy, Lledr and Llugwy rivers for centuries, but spring running fish were not introduced until 1920, when Mr Connell Smith of Gwydyr Hotel obtained eggs from Thurso in Scotland and introduced them to a hatchery he built on the Afon Lledr.

ANGLING
Anyone aged 12 or over fishing on lakes, canals or rivers in England and Wales , must have an Environment Agency Rod Fishing Licence, available from Post Offices. In addition to holding a licence you must have the permission of the holder of the fishing rights. To check fishing seasons and byelaws, call (0645) 333 111.
